Rechargeable Grass Cutter

I have always taken pride in my lawn, and I try to manage it as much as possible. I water it to keep it green, tend to the plants and bushes, and cut it routinely. Even when I was a kid, tending the lawn was my responsibility, and I mowed lawns in college to make extra money. To make sure that my lawn is presentable, I aim to use tools that are of great quality. I have a medium sized front yard and backyard space, and as stated above, I like to do my lawn mowing routinely.I didn’t like my previous motor too much. It was an average mower that I bought when I first became a home owner from a craigslist poster. This guy had it for years, and from what I saw, it was still in great condition. It got the job done, but it was heavy, hard to steer, and grass clippings were left on my lawn. Plus, it wasn’t environmentally friendly since it ran on gas, and it was noisy.I soon decided that I needed a new mower.I heard about battery powered lawn equipment and “green” lawn mowers and how great they were. I was super stoked something like this existed and was looking around for a lawn mower with battery.I was looking for a quality rechargeable grass cutter and a cordless battery lawn mower that will stand the test of time,be able to take care of the thickness of my lawn and handle any lawn condition. Although I love high-quality products, I don’t feel the need to pay an arm and a leg for it. So, I went on amazon and searched for battery powered lawn mowers for sale under $500 dollars. After searching for my requirements and selecting my filters, I found the Greenworks 25302 Twin Force G-MAX 40-volt Lithium-Ion Cordless Mower at a list price for $399.00 and an Amazon price for $334.99.It had some good reviews on Amazon and around the net. Some sites even named it the best battery operated lawn mower 2016. For this greenworks 40V lawn mower review, I will share with you features, packaging and assembly, usage, pros and cons, questions, and overview and conclusions. If you just want a quick rundown, skip over to the pros and cons. From pros and cons on down you’ll get a run down on everything stated under the usage section.

Features

This cordless battery lawn mower includes many features that has contributed to its great reviews on the net including:

  • 4AH battery
  • 2AH battery
  • Charger
  • 20-inch cutting deck
  • Smart cut technology
  • Dual blades
  • Automatic battery

Packing and Assembly

The package came fairly quick and all parts needed were included in the box. The assembly or the rechargeable grass cutter took about 20 minutes to assemble with the help of its clear instructions. The battery was not fully charged when it arrived, so I had to put it on the charger before I used it for the first time. The batteries do have a specific side they need to be placed on. Keep in mind that the greenworks 40V lawn mower is powered by the left battery first, then the Twin Force switches to the right battery. Per many reviews, I installed the 2h battery on the left and the 4h on the right.

Usage

Starting the rechargeable grass cutter was kind of tricky, since on a normal gas mower you pull back on the dead man switch before pushing and holding the start button. On this greenworks dual blade mower, you press and hold the start button then you pull the dead man switch. The first thing I noticed about the mower was how lightweight it was. It was easy to steer up and down my front and back yard. I even let my mother, who is up there in age and tiny, borrow it. She was able to use it with ease and wanted one for herself. Another thing I noticed about the lawn mower with rechargeable battery is the lack of smell. When I used my gas mower, I had to wear a mask, because the gas smell was strong and unpleasant to deal with. Now with the greenworks 40v lawn mower, I can mow my lawn without a mask and preventing fumes from going into the air at the same time. I also liked how quiet the lawn mower was. I’m always self-conscious about how much noise I’m making. Even though it is normal to hear a lawn mower going on during the day, it still made me uneasy because I don’t like making a lot of noise.

One thing that made me skeptical about purchasing rechargeable grass cutter was the battery. The battery lasts long enough for me to mow the front and the back, and as I mentioned before, my front and backyard is a decent size. After a mow, I still have enough power left and it takes no time to recharge. Many reviews were saying how the battery was crap and how it constantly needed to be replaced. To address this, with any electronic device (i.e. computer, phone mower,) you don’t want to keep it on the charger. It will burn the battery out. I charge my battery and store it in a place with room temperature. There are battery upkeep instructions in the manual that says this. The only problem I had with the battery was during the summer time. I live in a hot climate state, and it gets especially hot during the summer. Because of the temperature, there were times when the battery was too over heated to charge. So as stated above, keep your battery stored in a cool, room temperature room. Also, let the battery cool before charging.

I can only count a couple of times where I had to recharge in the middle of a mowing, only because I went on long vacations during the summer, and it was a long time between mowings. When I came back and the grass was ridiculously long, my compact electric lawn mower was able to handle the growth and the unkempt condition of the grass. It doesn’t have a hose attached to clean the underside, but a stick works just fine.

I am not a perfectionist, but I do expect a nice-looking lawn from my tools. The quality of cut is as good as a traditional mower, but it is not the best. The edge is not as clean and the pattern is as good, but my lawn still looks good and well taken cared of.I just use a roller to fix the pattern. The greenworks dual blade mower bag is easy to remove and replace. I just dump the contents into a garbage bag and reattach. When I had issues with the rechargeable grass cutter, such as the door not closing or having issues with my trimmer, Green works customer service did a great job to ensure I was assisted and my cordless battery lawn mower continued to work. I am very happy with customer service.
